The Government is helping dairy farmers to lower their energy costs by providing $1 million in funding to improve energy efficiency in dairy farms. 'Dairy Australia will provide energy efficiency advice to dairy farms, including on-farm energy efficiency assessments at over 900 farms.

Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Dr Mike Kelly, today announced a call for papers for the 8 th International Lessons Learned Conference, which will be hosted by Australia in Sydney from 3-6 December 2012. Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, Dr Mike Kelly, said I am very pleased Australia is hosting this important conference in 2012. The focus of the 2012 International Lessons Learned Conference is on transitions this will provide civil-military practitioners from around the world with a dedicated forum in which to discuss and debate what we have learned from conducting peacemaking operations such as those in Afghanistan, Iraq, Solomon Islands and East Timor, as well as disaster response missions in Haiti, Pakistan and Indonesia.

ACMA - ACMA media release 33/2012 – 17 May
The ACMA today released its first paper in the review of the radiofrequency spectrum between 1427.9 and 1510.9 MHz (the 1.5 GHz mobile band). This band was previously identified by the ACMA as one of a number of candidate bands for mobile broadband services in its earlier discussion paper, . The relatively low usage of the 1.5 GHz mobile bandespecially in areas where there is high demand for mobile broadband servicesand nascent moves to standardise the band internationally for mobile broadband services, mean it is timely to consider options for its replanning.

ACMA - ACMA media release 32/2012 – 17 May
The Australian Communications and Media Authority has given a formal warning to , following an investigation that found that it breached the Telecommunications Act by failing to provide accurate customer records to the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND) Manager. Lycamobile has provided the ACMA with details of a range of process improvements it has put in place to capture its customer data, and has cooperated fully with the ACMA during the investigation. The ACMA has had an in place for a number of years.

RAMSI projects supporting the community in Malaita, media release, 17 May 2012, Australian Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs
Parliamentary Secretary for Pacific Island Affairs Richard Marles is visiting the Solomon Islands province of Malaita today to see how Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) supported projects are helping strengthen local law and justice facilities. Mr Marles will visit several RAMSI projects in Malaita Province, including Auki Magistrate's Court, which was constructed with joint RAMSI-Solomon Islands Government funding, and Auki Correctional Centre, one of RAMSI's key infrastructure projects. 'Australia has helped deliver real achievements in Malaita, such as supporting the upgrade of Kilufi hospital, helping young Malaitans get an education through budget support to Malaita's primary and junior secondary schools, and performing maintenance work on 235km of roads,' said Mr Marles.

Agriculture shares $70 million in research grants- The Hon. Joe Ludwig - Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry
Over 100 research and demonstration projects across the country will share in $72.5 million as part of the Gillard Government's first round of Filling the Research Gap and Action on the Ground grants. Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, announced the funding at the Queensland University of Technology's site in Samford, near Brisbane, today and said this investment will help farmers and land managers lower greenhouse gas emissions and access new sources of farm income. 'This work will take the research from the lab to the farm,' Minister Ludwig said.
